About
Open-air site in Göreme preserving a monastic settlement used from the 4th to the 13th century. Rock blocks hold carved churches, chapels and refectories; the wall paintings were applied directly onto rock and in fresco-secco technique. It opened to visitors in 1967 and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage property Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia.
