About
Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. It covers fairy chimneys formed by the erosion of volcanic tuff, more than 200 rock-cut churches, cave dwellings and underground cities. Components include the Göreme Valley, the Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu underground cities and the rock sites of Karain, Karlık, Yeşilöz and Soğanlı; the property extends over several districts.
