Akşehir lies at the foot of the Sultan Mountains north-west of Konya and is known as the town where Nasreddin Hodja lived and is buried. The International Nasreddin Hodja Festival is held every July; Lake Akşehir, cherry orchards and the historic Taş Madrasa are among its other attractions.
