About the festival
The camel wrestling festival in Selçuk is a long-standing gathering of the Aegean winter camel wrestling tradition and held its 41st edition in 2023. It takes place every year on the third Sunday of January at the Pamucak Wrestling Arena near the ancient city of Ephesus. On the day, bull camels dressed in decorated saddles are paired by category and wrestle in front of spectators to drum and zurna music. In past years the festival opened the day before with a camel parade in Selçuk's İstasyon Square and a contest for the best-decorated camel. It is organised by the Selçuk Ephesus Camel Culture and Wrestling Association with support from Selçuk Municipality.
