About

Şahinler Nature Park lies at kilometre 110 of the Ankara–Bolu (D750) road, at the Akyarma Meşeler Yaylası locality in the Bozalan area of the Kızılcahamam district of Ankara. It is 25 km from both Kızılcahamam and Gerede in Bolu province, and there is no public transport. Considered suitable for outdoor recreation thanks to its vegetation, wildlife and scenery, the area was protected on 17 July 2009; on 14 December 2022 it was enlarged from 33.58 to 142.67 hectares by adding forest and clearings to the north. Alongside black pine and Scots pine, there are forests of beech, sessile oak and juniper, with bracken, nettle, dog rose and ivy common in the undergrowth. A total of 213 taxa from 70 families have been recorded in and around the park; Abant crocus, Ankara crocus, foxglove and Gagea bithynica are among the seven endemic species noted in the area. Animals observed include the tree frog, whip snake, little owl, grey heron, black stork and ruddy shelduck. Visitors can spend the day outdoors, walk and take in the views.
