About

Kuruköprü Monument Museum and Traditional Adana House occupies a former church in the Seyhan district of Adana, built by the local Greek Orthodox community in 1845. From outside the building is a rectangle aligned east–west, while inside it follows a three-nave basilica plan. A sun symbol decorates the triangular pediment over the entrance, the double iron door carries floral motifs, and a nine-line Greek inscription above the west door records the construction date. For many years the building held the collection of the Adana museum founded in 1924. In 1937 a section on the ethnography of Çukurova was added, creating the country's first open-air museum. After 1972 it served as a storeroom, reopened as an Ethnography Museum in 1983, and following restoration between 2013 and 2015 it welcomed visitors under its current name in 2017.
