About the festival
The Hıdırnebi Highland Festival is a traditional summer gathering on the Hıdırnebi plateau, at about 1,740 metres in the Akçaabat district of Trabzon. Akçaabat Municipality's calendar of highland festivals ties it to 20 July, which locals call 'the 7th of the sickle month', and the provincial culture and tourism directorate states that it begins on 20 July and lasts three days. Known locally as 'dernek', these gatherings are the liveliest days of the custom of moving up to the highland pastures with livestock. The festival centres on Hıdırnebi Hill, a natural viewpoint. The plateau is reached by a dirt road of about 10 km that turns west at kilometre 12 of the Akçaabat–Düzköy road; guesthouse-style lodging is available.
