About
The Muratlı Atatürk House Museum is a single-storey house opposite the railway station in the Muratlı district of Tekirdağ. Muratlı itself was founded as a home for some of the Turkish migrants who arrived from Bulgaria in 1934–1935, under the population exchange clause of the Treaty of Lausanne of 24 July 1923. When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to Muratlı on 3 June 1936 to see the migrant housing then under construction, he was received as a guest in this house and drank coffee served by the family living there. The mud-brick house, with three rooms and a kitchen, was acquired by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which restored it to its original design. Today it displays photographs of Atatürk's visit to Muratlı together with local ethnographic objects. The small museum recalls the resettlement work of the early Republican years and Atatürk's personal interest in it.
