Bayır Plane Tree Natural Monument

Bayır Plane Tree Natural Monument is an oriental plane tree in the Camiyanı area of Bayır neighbourhood in the Marmaris district of Muğla, registered as a natural monument on 21 February 1995. Its age has been estimated at about 1,900 years; it stands 35 metres tall and its trunk measures 2.80 metres in diameter. The tree shares a courtyard, effectively the village square, with Bayır Mosque, the Çınaraltı coffee house and another natural monument, the Bayır Cypress. The shops and houses lining the courtyard and the street give the setting a lively, colourful look. Visitors can sit in the plane tree's shade with a coffee, beneath a living tree that has stood through roughly nineteen centuries of local history. The monument can be reached by public transport departing from Marmaris bus station.
