About

Büyükada Nature Park lies on the island of Büyükada, from which it takes its name, in the Adalar district of İstanbul, and was designated in 2011. The park, about 4.45 hectares in size, is reached by ferry from Sirkeci, Kabataş, Kadıköy, Bostancı and Kartal, then on foot, by electric motorbike or by rented bicycle. The vegetation is mainly coniferous, including Turkish red pine, maritime pine, stone pine, Mediterranean cypress, fir and Atlas cedar. Sessile and Turkey oak, mimosa, Judas tree, hackberry, strawberry tree, bay laurel and oleander also grow here. Wild boar, squirrels, foxes, hedgehogs, hares, moles and magpies are among the animals living in the area. Known for its views, the park offers bungalow-type accommodation, picnic areas, sports grounds, a swimming pool, a country restaurant, a café and kiosks. The beach on the shore has showers, changing cabins and sunbeds with parasols; swimmers should watch out for currents.
