About

Durasan Şah Nature Park covers 145.87 hectares at the Yazlık Sırtı locality near Tekke village in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara. It was placed under protection in 2018 for its natural resources and recreational potential. The park is 55 km from Ankara and 10 km from Kazan and is reached by private vehicle; the last 2 km of the road is unpaved. The land is volcanic, formed of Miocene andesite and andesite tuffs; it is gently rolling, with many clearings and flat areas, at an average altitude of 1,450 m. The vegetation includes black pine, juniper, downy oak, Turkey oak, laurel-leaved rockrose, maple and willows, as well as the Ankara crocus, Abant crocus, foxglove, cyclamen and wild strawberry. The area lies within the range of the cinereous vulture and the Egyptian vulture, both endangered and protected by national and international agreements. Banded newts, tree frogs, tortoises, chaffinches and siskins have also been recorded. There are no facilities yet, and no activities take place in the park.
