Zeugma Ancient City (Archaeological Site)

Über den Ort

Ancient city on the Euphrates founded by Seleucus I. It reached its peak in the 2nd century AD and was the headquarters of the Roman legion IV Scythica. Excavations have uncovered villas, a theatre, colonnaded streets, a bath, an agora and a temple, and a bronze statue of Mars was found in 2000. Many of the mosaics recovered here are displayed at the Zeugma Mosaic Museum.
