Archaeology museum in Ulus, below Ankara Castle, housed in two Ottoman buildings, the Mahmutpaşa covered bazaar and the Kurşunlu Han. Its origins go back to 1921; restoration of the buildings began in 1938 and was completed in 1968. The collection shows Anatolian finds from the Palaeolithic to the Classical period in chronological order. It was named European Museum of the Year in 1997.
According to muze.gov.tr, the Ankara Hall and the Classical Hall are closed for maintenance from 14 September 2026 to 2 March 2027. An audio guide is available.
