Trabzon Castle (City Walls)

The walls run from the shore to the hills behind the old town and divide the city into three parts: the Upper Citadel, the Middle Fortress (Ortahisar) and the Lower Fortress. The oldest sections date back to the Roman period; the Middle and Lower sections were built under Alexios II (1297–1330). The upper and middle parts are flanked by two stream valleys.
