About
Sis Mountain Nature Park is a 24-hectare protected area at the Üvezlialan locality in the Şalpazarı district of Trabzon. It was declared a nature park in 2019 because of its biodiversity, which requires protection, and its distinctive landscape character. The park is 7 km from the centre of Şalpazarı and about 78 km from the city of Trabzon. It can be reached from Trabzon along the Black Sea coastal road; municipal buses and minibuses run to Şalpazarı, and the rest of the way can be covered by taxi. The nearest airport is Trabzon Airport, 80 km away. The flora consists largely of middle-aged and old forest trees, with saplings, shrubs and herbaceous plants in places. The forest includes oriental spruce, hornbeam, oriental beech, alder, chestnut, sessile oak, Caucasian lime and cherry laurel. Two rhododendron species known locally as kumar and zifin, rowan, guelder rose, elder, bilberry, Caucasian whortleberry and several ferns also grow in the area.
