About

Milas Stone Works Museum occupies the Ahmet Gazi Madrasah within the Beçin Castle archaeological site in the Milas district of Muğla province. Built in 1375, the madrasah is the only building in Beçin whose original inscription has survived; after restoration it was given a new role as a museum. The single-storey building has an open courtyard and two iwans, with nine rooms and two corridors. Its 35 stone works are divided into Principalities-period and Ottoman-period groups, each arranged chronologically. Alongside them, ethnographic material relates to madrasah education and burial customs, and there is a screening room, miniature models of Anatolian madrasahs and a room with a re-enactment display. The main iwan contains the tomb of Ahmet Gazi, the founder, and a second tomb whose occupant is unknown.
