Teos Terebinth Natural Monument

Teos Terebinth Natural Monument protects a terebinth (menengiç) tree in the Seferihisar district of İzmir. The 1.5-decare site where it grows was declared a natural monument on 9 November 1994. The tree is 50 to 55 years old, 4 metres tall, with a trunk diameter of 0.50 metres and a circumference of 1.55 metres. It was registered because of its distinctive root and trunk form and the way it blends into the historic area in which it stands. In this sense the monument is an example of a natural feature being protected together with its historic setting.
