About
The İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum is an art museum and gallery of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the Konak district of İzmir. It began on 9 September 1952 as a gallery in Kültürpark, later moved to a building on Atatürk Boulevard, and in 1973 became a museum and relocated to its new premises in Konak. One of the state's first initiatives in the visual arts in the city, the gallery gave local artists a place to exhibit and brought the annual State Exhibitions to İzmir. The museum's collection of 546 works comprises paintings, sculptures, ceramics and prints, including pieces by masters such as Şeker Ahmet Ali Paşa, Hoca Ali Rıza, Hikmet Onat and İbrahim Çallı. The building also has a library of books on art and art history and halls for temporary exhibitions. Its workshops run courses in illumination, tile art, painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking, as well as weekend painting classes for children.
Opening hours (muze.gov.tr, October 2026): 08:30–17:30, ticket office closes at 17:00. Open daily. Paid entry; the Müzekart museum pass is accepted.
