About
Anadolu kestanesi Natural Monument is a group of sweet chestnut trees on the Gölcük plateau in the Ödemiş district of İzmir. The 2.5-decare site, 19 km from the centre of Ödemiş and 112 km from İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, was declared a natural monument on 27 September 1994. Next to the Gölcük picnic area stand 18 chestnut trees, estimated to be between 500 and 700 years old. Their trunk circumferences range from 5 to 9.5 metres, their diameters from 1.60 to 3.03 metres and their heights from 10 to 24 metres. In past years local people pruned the branches, and because of their great age most of the trees have developed hollows in their trunks.
Entry hours (DKMP, October 2026): 07:00–21:00.
