About

The Mehmet Akif Ersoy Memorial House is a flat on the fourth floor of the Mısır Apartment building in the Beyoğlu district of İstanbul. The national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy spent the last months of his life here, between 16 June and 27 December 1936, and died in this flat. It was later arranged as a memorial and opened to visitors. The house is divided into four parts: the Mehmet Akif Library, the Documentary Room, the Poetry Room and the Exhibition Hall. These rooms display the poet's personal belongings and books, giving visitors a close look at the setting of his final period. The small museum is a quiet stop in Beyoğlu for anyone interested in the life of the poet who wrote the Turkish national anthem.
