About

Avcıkoru Nature Park lies on the border of the Çekmeköy and Şile districts of İstanbul, in the Avcıkoru and Madenler localities. The 649-hectare park was designated on 11 July 2011 and is named after a nearby village. The vegetation is mostly broadleaved: pedunculate and sessile oak, sweet chestnut, oriental beech and hornbeam are the main trees, with bay laurel, cornelian cherry, hawthorn, tree heath, climbers and ferns also common. Mammals such as roe deer, wild boar, jackal, fox and hedgehog share the area with birds including pheasant, chukar partridge, short-toed eagle, kestrel, kingfisher and bee-eater, as well as tortoises, lizards, snakes and frogs. In the northwest an artificial pond has formed in a former mine pit. Since reopening in April 2019, the park has offered a survivor course with eight tracks and a children's play park with 34 inflatable units. The day-use area has a country café, kiosk and playground, and the trails are used for hiking, trekking and orienteering.
