About
Hassa Lav Tüpü Caves Natural Monument is a 1,189-hectare protected area at Koruhöyük Mahallesi in the Hassa district of Hatay, declared in 2019. Its name refers to the tubes created when volcanic lava gradually cooled and hardened. The area contains many caves of different sizes, three of them prominent. It lies 8 km from the centre of Hassa and 87 km from Antakya and can be reached by private vehicle. Plants include Arabian pea, kermes oak, Thymus kotschyanus, fern grass, timothy grass and Festuca valesiaca. The fauna includes reptiles such as the spur-thighed tortoise, the Lebanon lizard, the chameleon and the starred agama, as well as the Indian crested porcupine, the Egyptian mongoose, the badger, the golden jackal, the red fox and several bat species, among them horseshoe bats. There are currently no facilities or nature tourism activities; once planning is complete, wildlife watching, nature walks and photo safaris are expected to become possible.
Entry hours (DKMP, October 2026): 08:00–15:00.
