Gaziantep Milli Mücadele Nature Park is a 29.6-hectare area in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep, north of the city and 25 km from the centre. It lies at kilometre 28 of the Gaziantep–Kilis road, at the Bostancık and Dokurcum Değirmeni locality, just west of the Şahinbey Monument. It was declared a nature park in 2018 to commemorate the period of the Turkish War of Independence (Milli Mücadele). The site is in the area where the Defence of Antep took place. Şahin Bey, the hero of the defence, was killed on 28 March 1920 at the nearby Elmalı Bridge; on the same day, 14 children carrying food to him and his comrades were caught by French soldiers while hiding in the Dokurcum Mill and were killed. The Şahin Bey monument, the Elmalı Bridge and the mill all stand near the park. Most of the site keeps its natural character, while the eastern part has been planted with Turkish red pine and cypress. The park has picnic units, a monument, a ceremonial area, open-air exhibition spaces, information panels and a small mosque, and visitors can picnic and take nature walks.
