About

Ancient city in the Lykos valley north of central Denizli. It was founded by the Seleucid king Antiochos II in the 3rd century BC and named after his wife Laodike. The grid-planned city has a stadium, two theatres, baths, agoras, temples and one of the seven churches of Asia named in the Book of Revelation. It was largely abandoned after an earthquake in the 7th century.
